Ok, so I have changed nothing on my sites pages, not actively recruited new links for a week or so, Y is showing a fairly recent cached version of my pages but for my top keyword I have gone from ~30 to 922. Im not sure when this happened as I have been away for a few weeks. G and MSN are as normal, has the Y algo changed significantly, or a more reasonable question - has anyone noticed similar things and been able to narrow down the reasons?
Yahoo's last BIG update was around July 30ish. Then there was a little up and down thing few weeks ago,but it went back to normal. Now Im still holding same space as at end of july. +/- 1-2 spots everyday, it changes often.
i've got a new site that is a few months old that i thought would start ranking on Y, but has yet to apear. i am 4 in MSN and was 43 in Google for my Keywords.
I've got a couple of websites which also appear well in Google and MSN but yet their Yahoo ranking is much lower..... the problem is according to what I've noticed is that yahoo accept keyword spamming and if you use that you will not go up in the other SE.
Yes dondor, as I've gone through and modified my pages to rank better in Google and MSN, I've lost Yahoo rankings. No doubt, if you're willing to use spam, hidden text and other bad tactics, Y! ranking can be easy, but you'll suffer the wrath of other engines as a result. That's not to say that good websites and web pages can't rank in Yahoo, but they do seem overwhelmed with crap.
I am having the same issue with Yahoo, There must be an update going on such as Google's update. My keywords have dissapeared from the Yahoo search results, I was ranking very well but not today.
I'm having the same problem. Been fine on Y for almost 6 years, now all of the sudden everything but my registered home page has dissapeared from the SERPS. I guess just wait it out.
Yahoo doesn't have a pagerank equivalent - htey used to have one in beta but guess they realised that pagerank means nothing anyway! I appeared beck in the Y! SERPS today, then dissapeared a few hours later, not sure what is going on but there is a lot of flicking between datacenters/result sets going on. Another strange thing I sometimes notice is that IE and FireFox will display different results for teh same search... very odd.
I had a site that was #1 for over a year, I havent really changed anything but its been now about 2 weeks maybe I've gone right down to 200+ or something. I thought the big update I was reading about with Y finished, but to be fair I don't know if it is that because no one else in the top 10 for my keyword seemed to be effected other than me!
I'm seeing yahoo doing a little sandboxing. My newer pages are in and out of the results. I think I'm back in and then they yank the whole page out of the results. Only seems to be pages that are less than 3 months from what I can tell.
Like I said yesterday, only in Yahoo can you jump up 80 spots one day, only to drop 87 two days later, then up 85, and back down again a few days later. All this while changing nothing on your site. I use to stress about it, now I just roll with it. There's no rhyme or reason so there's no reason to drive myself nuts anymore. These past two weeks have been ridiculous, probably the worst I've ever seen with this happening so frequently and the rankings being so unstable. Hopefully someday the rankings will actually sit for a month or so and this will come to an end Ian
Very true, all of my competetitors are using hidden text and other old school techniques. I'm going to do the same if next update doesn't fair well. http://www.clickhandbags.com
