There is no submiter's ip, url, and I can't do anything to stop. It happened in my phpld v2 and v3 directories.:(

Yes, I got the same spam submission everyday
So I think PHPLD should have a function like "locking category"

phpLD top level submission blocking functionality seems to be faulty. I've had and have seen quite a few complaints about it, so i actually wrote a MOD to control it. After day one of the MOD being installed, my client informed me that the 30+ or so spammy submissions similar to that which was posted has stopped. :D (client happy == me happy)

lol that's top quality spam, if you use a version younger than the 3.0.6 it must be horrible for you to delete all of them one by one T_T...

I was having the exact same problem - theres a quick fix solution (if you have phpMyAdmin installed on your server).

Although the ip address isn't shown in the phpLD admin area the ip address is shown in the database. Simply find one of the offending submissions and you can find the ip - then simply ban it.

If you need specifics on how to find that row in the appropriate table of the database drop me a pm - or im sure someone else (ie An0n) can tell you where to look and how to do it.

I found all mine were coming from just 1 ip address... problem solved :)

I think if you keep on top of it and deal with it when it comes in then you can keep it under control quite easily. Having a ban option in your directory script (phpLD3.x for example) is a fantastic way of combating problems like this.

Further to this, this mod by Tim Myth can remove any submissions that don't have an active email address... needless to say $5 and a mod like that can have a big impact if your experiencing problems!

    Good result,
but must say my client and friend informed me that about 90+ % of spammy submissions has gone with my small modification to his (also mine) directory...
    Best are custom solutions! :)

    :D

Ban control is pretty much useless, especially with subdomain spam, blocking IP addresses - you'll end up blocking innocent visitors. Blocking email addresses is useless as well.

Automated spam is some of the worse spam a directory owner has to deal with. I know, I used to have that problem.

Now, I can concentrate on improving my directory. All of the automated crap is automatically deleted. I never see it. It used to come in at regular intervals, at least 30 submissions were waiting for me in the am, and groups of 2 were submitted throughout the day and regular intervals.

    Antonio, check your PM. ;)
