Have seen a few well designed sites over on flippa and I figure people will always need a place to host their images. So if you don't mind it would be great if people could share stuff like: traffic, revenue, bandwidth usage, promotion techniques, etc.
Yes image hosting really need a powerful server with 100mbps port. I purchase dedicated server for my image host site. I don't worry about bandwidth coz i'm on unmetered port. I promote it at major forum
hmmm ok. I'm just in the midst of setting up an enterprise essential vps over at servint for my new proxy network but would something like that be powerful enough to run an image host site? It's 768GB RAM, 1TB bandwidth and 30GB disk space.. not sure of mbps though :$. Also is forums the only form of promotion you did or other techniques as well? What type of revenue does the site bring in?
When I first started an image hosting site it didn't need that big of a server. To save some money simply delete the photos that are out of your TOS (eg porn in some cases), which can really lag the server down. Image hosting sites are a great business to get into right now and I would suggest it to anyone .
True thanks for the reply. Does your site try and offer a niche (ie especially for commercial use) or just general? What advertising do you use?
