Just tried to load my website and server timed out.
Anyone else having problems loading their websites hosted with Hostgator today?

just got off the chat with Hostgator and it seems everything is working fine.
I know from another forum user he encountered some problems the day before yesterday.

No problems with my sites. Did you contact tech support and ask? A great resource to see if your site is really down or if it's just on your end or your ISP is www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com

Contacted support and everything was fine the moment I was talking to them.
So I have no idea what has caused it. But what matters, everything is running.
Thank you and also thanks for the tip with the link you included. Will remember that.

If you receive any downtime, i would suggest moving to a new host. If they are down once then it tends to become more frequent.

Nah, HostGator is great. They have top notch support, and usually fix a problem within moments

Thats not true because every host in one time or another will experience a down time with one of their servers. Its a problem if it happens continuously.

I agree, a hiccup once and a great while will happen with any server. Monitor your uptime and if it becomes a more frequent occurrence then tell them you are going to leave unless they move you to a different server.

I'm not blaming Hostgator on anything yet and I won't jump on any conclusions even though my site was down again today in the afternoon. I got straight ahold of their support as soon as I noticed it and they thanked me for reporting the problem. The problem wasn't caused by any technical issues Hostgator would be responsible for, the problem was caused by someone on the same box running any huge up or download or whatever doubtful script that caused a crash of the server. They restarted the server and now they will investigate who's account caused the problem and that account will get suspended. I think something like that can happen on any server, no matter how good the host service is supposed to be.
So why blaming Hostgator for something they can't have a direct control over.
Blame those people they use a shared server like it was all theirs only because they are too tight to spend the money on a dedicated server.
I think it really takes a lot to get such a server to crash.
Correct me if I'm wrong and any report on experiences with Hostgator are more than welcome. I'm running our site only for a little over one month with Hostgator so far and actually haven't heard anything bad about them.

Come to think of it I remember when I first used Hostgator like 3 years ago I used their cheapest plan which was the hatchling plan. I remember my site experienced a lot of down time. Once I upgraded to the baby my uptime was a lot better. I think its true when they say you get what you pay for.

Is there a tool I could use or install to monitor the uptime permanently? I can't sit here all day long and check if my site is up or down. ;)
    Thank you

I had issues with them past Sunday again and they told me again someone on the same box where my site is hosted had running a big download or upload or any other script using all resources. well, had heard that twice before. Wondering if they really do anything about that or if everyone can just run on the server what they want. I was pretty pissed! But now things seem to be working better again. Til the next issue I guess.
