Anyone ever written a privacy policy?

In the course of my copywriting, I've been asked to write a privacy policy. Has anyone any experience in writing something like this that they can share?

    Thanks!

Why not just go to similar sites on the Internet and see what others have done? I've written many privacy policies over the years but they are all very different from each other. You need to tailor it to the actual types of data collected and how that data will be used and protected.

My approach to this was simple.

I gathered a few privacy policies and tried to compile into one.
I then made sure the policy is completely and utterly watertight and possibly unusable. At this stage you are covered legally but the customers can't do anything. I then went ahead and loosened some of the restrictions/rules to serve my specific need (webhost).

As an added benefit I have some lawer friends and I got them to read through that, except for smoe wording they said I did a pretty good job :)

thanks, I've started to compile some from a similar industry and approach it like that. does anyone know if there are perhaps any infringement issues at work as long as I'm using similar policies, but re-writing them?

    again, thanks for the help

I know of some sites that offer "free" privacy policies. I'm sure that in that case, there would be no risk of infringement if you rewrote it, as you'd be allowed to use it 'as-is' without any sort of citation.

mauik, I think there are websites out there that let you generate a privacy policy based on specifications that you choose. Maybe you can then edit it or rework it a bit. I haven't personally tried those generators, but maybe you could give it a try.

    I hope that helps. :)
