So, I just finished Dexter season 5. Hmmm... still not quite sure what to think. The series has definitely strayed a long way from its roots, back in season 1. Anyone else watching Dexter? What do you think?
Dexter is a nice serie but season 2 and season 3 are bad in my opinion.... Just finished season 5 and I always ask myself how Dexter manages to not get caught.... But great season still
I kind of think that this latest season was less about Dexter, and more about the emotional development of the characters. Not a bad idea for the writers - but I guess I miss the "old" version of Dexter sometimes. Season 1 Dexter was awesome. :-P
The relationship between Lumen and Dexter sucked the fun out of any scene in which they were together. They just did not have any dynamic. It is one low point of the series. Thing is Dexter woks best alone, or when he strives to be alone ( as with that British female in season 2, was it?). The best one was when Dexter's daughter and friend make an appearance. That one was a fun episode. I guess the writers realize that Dexter s getting repetetive, and are trying new things ( a partner in crime cum lover this time). I just hope they tried better things. Or got better characters than Lumen ( "someone help me! I cant move but I want to kill everyone!")!
I couldn't have said it better myself. Julia Stiles did not do a great job playing Lumen. Her character's dialog felt forced, and you're right, there just wasn't anything between her and Dexter. I kind of felt like they've strayed far from the roots of the show - they've made it less of an intellectual experience, and more of a dramatic, emotional soap opera. Not that I don't care about a character's emotions, of course... it just seems like they're focusing on it more. Personally, I preferred when they were focusing on the psychological aspects of Dexter being the way he is. Just my opinion, though.
