Hello, I dont know whether other members have tried this one from David of Phpld but i tried the concept of Bid in Phpld directory.. He sent me the free version 2.1.2 of this bid directory and i have installed it here - http://www.onedollarlink.org/ Hope it's working well. I tried submitting and other things and everything went fine.. Adding categories and all, and then would see how it goes! And i really liked the concept, its cool I liked it, so gonna promote my directory a lot Are other members using this thing? It yes, let me know if you have made any changes like template etc.
Good. You are the first to put one up. Please give some feedback. Would be great if you work on the template a little too. Once people test it a little, this will be a free release for version 2.1.2 of phpld.
Great to know i am the 1st one Yes i am trying to do some changes in template, but very poor in these coding things, will have to ask someone but surely would try to do something. Anyways, its a great feature, and bidding is really easy and non complicated way
You "should" be able to use the templates that are available for v2.1.2, though some minor modification may be required. I think soon some template designers will release versions just for this release.
I am sure we will have templates flooding in a 1-2 days. Good to see that you were the first one to use the template.
yes the only main thing that is different from phplb is that approval of links! Anyways thanks for the test..
I saw that one coming Any plan to have this mod for v3.2/3.1 ?? I might try something with it as well.
I believe there are a couple of mod developers doing something similar in 3.2, but I am not sure when there will be release. I wanted to see something in the free version first, so the idea can develop a little. After Matt Cutts post about selling links, I'm a little hesitant to fully embrace this model. I know that not all directories are of the highest quality, but there are definitely some great ones out there with good links, and good content. When it comes to bidding, the model is almost completely dependant on selling links that are ranked based on the amount paid, versus there being a review process that looks at links based quality, not how much they paid. I know some folks have had some awesome earnings using a similar model, and that's great. I'm not against those people, but I want to make sure that we don't find out on the next google update that google doesn't like these sorts of sites. Google seems pretty clear they are against practices that try to buy and sell pagerank. Would google view these sorts of sites that way? Maybe there are ways this model can be developed in a way that is not focused on selling links as the central focus. I don't have all the answers, but I want to be sure people are careful about investing a lot in this model until we learn more over time.
So you should be hesitant, this is yet another gimmick thats adding to the absolutely destruction of the the directories industry at our level, there's only one piece of history where David beat Goliath, can't see it happening again, lets not push our luck even though its a great concept.
People pushing the envelope is what innovation is all about. It is a good thing. And there are lots of reasons to think of google as the next microsoft, dominating everything. We still have to try to learn and understand as best we can. And we have to decide if we want to be "cutting edge" (riskier) or "tried and true" (safer). Both approaches have their merits. When it comes to phpLD, I don't want to go too deep into "cutting edge", and later find we had a bunch of people get zapped by google in some way. So, while I like to stay abreast of what is "cutting edge" now, I also want to be careful not promote something too heavily that is not "tried and true", so I just encourage everyone to be careful.
Wow, congrats on the new generation. Will be trying it out on my directories too, later. Great idea sizzler, way to go. Keep up the great work.
Should thank david, and the mods who are developing it Hope there are some good templates being made soon for this after the release of this version of bid in phpld
Yes, and I have a great idea that I will share with your soon that should make this work really nicely for all directory owners.
I really want to agree with you, the bidding concept is far from cutting edge thing isn't new a variant of it has been with hyperseek for a long long time and other scripts like phpLynx have it on one of their versions although not used it since the hullaballoo with Cutt's and his comments. Pushing the envelope, possibly, pushing your luck, definately. Maybe test it on a few directories that don't have anything to lose would be wise just in case maybe?
