hm, mine keep going higher and higher for major searches over 200,000,000. positions 1, 2, 5, 10, 13, and a bunch of others for huge searches. Google is just treating my optimization better and better, free targeted hits and converts all day
To the people complaining about dropping rankings >> Where have you been getting the majority of your links from?
Heh, I'm not complaining but I thought you guys would find this funny. I've got one site that was #1 for a composite keyword, let's say "bejewelled jockstraps" (keyword changed to protect the innocent). It's been staying at #1 for the last 6 months, sometimes to #2 and back, etc. As of this morning a search for "bejewelled jockstraps" doesn't turn up my site in the top 1000. However, the site is now number one for the more desirable generic keyword "jockstraps", which actually converts much better but the competition was always pretty intense and we were happy enough ruling the "bejewelled jockstraps" niche. The site was optimized for "bejewelled jockstraps" from on page to anchor text to domain name. I imagine there's a couple of big wheels down at the "jockstraps" factory who are pretty confused right now. What ho google?
Still behind the competitor saying nice things... But we're back to number 2 on Google SERPs. I also think the previous web and SEM guy was pretty poor and I've spent a lot of time fixing the site's structure, grammar, meta tags, and inserting important keywords in the page text. Also working on internal linking, as well as building some more external. It's just frustrating the amount of garbage I've had to clean up, as well as fighting an employer who still thinks methods that are now black hat or worked 3 years ago are still perfectly fine.
Starting from 1st of March, I lost my first page position on google serps for my main keywords. Now I'm nowhere to be found in the first 100... The traffic dried out for about 30%... And it's worth saying that the february was my best month ever in terms of rankings and traffic. Oh well... I just hope this serp "washing" ends soon and get me my hard earned ranking and traffic back.
I see fluctuations. Some times my website is on the 3rd page sometimes on 4th... nothing major besides this
^^^ LOOK UP <<<< That is at the heart of 99% of all ranking fluctuation. Where your getting your links, whether you have been slacking lately, and/or if your competitor has worked harder than you. There is a couple of other things though. As Aaron pointed out some very large well established white hat sites are disappearing. As in the big daddy I believe this will all return to normal soon. Also some of you are acting like this is a PR update. It certainly is not. If it were nobody would be fluctuating. Just hold on to your seats and don't go screwing up your site by deleting or moving things around.
I think you're right. I'll certainly wait some more before I start changing things around... I am getting my links from the usual sources: article submission, link exchange, blog posts, directory submissions...
Ive just jumped into top 10 for my main keywords from being 10000th. Couldnt be happier.Been trying to get these key words up for months
one of my sites which was getting 5k visitors from google has dropped from serp results after the google bomb fix . i believe your problem is related with this
That's the theory I'm working to. The sites that have dropped a lot seem to have a large proportion of general links rather than theme sensitive. That, along with a possibility of older links dropping in value may explain whats behind this.
That and also when new links are added your link gets less value. A theme related link among 10 friends gives more value than the same among 50 other links. The quality and relevance of each of those links also lends to the value you receive.
so far looking through other threads , i can attribute my problesm to longtail affiliate links sitewide, well remedied it soon see what happens...
