Anyone else feel like they are being penalised for doing well?

I put a fair bit of effort adding adsense and blending to a site I run in February this year. It paid off, with the revenue trebling in March and also going well in early April. Based on what was happening, I honestly believed that we could have been making around the $100 a day mark by the end of the year.

But, sadly at this point of time it does not appear that will be happening. At the present moment revenue is down by 50% What we receive per click is almost a joke.

It could be traffic related, but I must admit I feel like I have been penalised for working hard to get adsense working for me.

Anyone else in a similar situation? This may be just a hiccup, but just wondering.

    Thanks

    John

I always look on the bright side. Any sum of money at all is better than nothing.

Dont get me wrong, the money that is coming in, means I dont have to pay the costs of running the organisation myself.

Was just a bit frustrating that after doing fairly well, the bottom seemed to fall out. Maybe that is just life.

Google decides which ads (low paying or high paying) to show on your site depending upon factors such as the quality / number of your site traffic and conversion rate - just to name a few. May be you were being provided with high paying ads in the beginning ...

Could be a possibility, just see what happens over the next couple of weeks.

    Thanks

it really just depends on the industry... there are a lot of variables with contextual advertising which is why its important to diversify your income

Have to remember that AdSense depends on AdWords. If the clicks are not converting from an AdWords perspective, Google really doesn't care anymore how well AdSense is working for you.

If they have advertisers stop using AdWords, they lose big. And in turn, we lose even bigger.

There are MANY more AdWords advertisers that don't pay much per click -- I'm one of them. I offer 5 cents to 10 cents for my AdWords bids. In the old days, when you had just a few advertisers, it is likely that their budgets ran through quick and many of them renewed their bids if the traffic paid off. Now that there are so many of them, it is likely that there are many more low-paying ads than high-paying ones.

My income per click slowly drops (very slowly) but my traffic goes up every day. My last 7 days of income was a historic record for me, about double what I was doing per week just 2 months ago. My traffic is up about 230% in that time, so it shows that income per visitor has dropped, but I don't mind. My advertisers are getting value from the clicks, I can guarantee that.

Looks like I just had to wait for awhile. Earnings are certainly on the way back up, mainly due to an increase in traffic to the site. This increase I would say is due to the fact Google seems to be indexing more of my site again.

    Big sigh of relief
