Anyone bought a turnkey site from ebay?

So I was browsing ebay these days and found a lot of turnkey websites. They range from $.99 to anywhere in 100ths of dollars. I was wondering if anyone had experience buying these sites? Do the turnkey websites actually work? Is it easy to make money from them?

I hope those people took those scripts from some warez site and are selling it at ebay! Stay away from them!

I bought one year ago when I was first starting out it was terrible. I really recommend avoiding them. Their is very little you can't get for free elsewhere.

he wasn't talking about a turkey :)) Turnkey website would be something ready to be used without any modifications.

My advice to the OP: don't expect any miracles form a website worth 100$. Even I as a (third world country) developer wouldn't even think of discussing a website project worth less then 100$. Usually just the design is worth at least that (I'm talking minimal stuff). Then I'd assume you want that site to do something too....

Short version: if it's too good to be true it probably isn't. They most likely rip off a warez script and sell it to you.

I've picked up a couple of sites on ebay and find them to be pretty worthless. You can find much better products on DP or sitepoint.

Well, I certainly know what turnkey means. I was just wondering if anyone here bought the said site from eBay.

I learned that I better spend my money on something else. I think I will buy a site from someone here on this forum.

I'm a firm believer in not reinventing the wheel if you do not have to.
If you see something you like, it can be a beginning site to customize as you wish. So if it already has the setup you want and images you like why not save the time?
From what I have seen of them most are .info domains with many sellers wanting you to host your site with them.
Most have feeds pre-installed for content, thus making it duplicate content from the net and not original.

One other thing, if you do buy one you will want to make sure the code is not encrypted so you can review it and make sure the script doesn't also send new member information to the original developer. Worse yet credit card information.
I have never used a pre-built script without going over the entire code to insure it is honest.

I have bought some for my hosting company website.
But i found out that its not user friendly and there are many error in the pages.
You can make $$ of the turnkey by buying the turnkey template that including the resell right,so that you can resell it at higher price.

I always have the same thought, if something looks to good to be true then it probably is.

I was asked to look into this for someone a few years ago and my advise to them was if you see an "Established Business, Making Thousands", does it make sense to sell it for £9.99? (or less).

The way I see it if you buy something for £9.99 don't be surprised when it turns out to worth £9.99 ;)

Just be smart and only buy ones that you really like. I bought one for $25 and i have made a couple hundred on it in a few weeks (a lil blackhat involved so not a good example.) But i also got reseller rights and so far i have sold 2 of them on ebay in about 3 days so i doubled my money in a legit way.

Look to see how it makes you money. If its like a ebay site or a or amazone. Then it could make you alot of money if u do it right.

The way i see it is that alot of people looking to make money online are lazy. This is a benifit to us. They will buy these cheap turnkey sites and put them up wait a few months and after nothing happens they toss it and call the script bullshit.

I say why not take that turn key site and add some of your own original content to it, do some SEO work, find good keywords, and just be patient. That way your site gets a higher ranking. it will pass up all the others, cause even though its alot of duplicate, it still has some original content.

Im not trying to say i know everything about making money online but i just think the more work you put into it the more money you will pull out of it.

I have and got a cd and everything, but if you don't know how to install script don't bother, your better option is to get a ecommerce zencart shopping cart its absolutely free.. just google zencart.. its way better then any other shop/ecommerce shopping card I've ever used..
