How's the result? Did you get the submission on the same day?
I wonder that is it a good option?

Its a very good option if your directory is niche and you do a press release on a related web site. I haven't done that personaly but from my experience, i think it will work.

That sounds to be a good idea.
Any specific format to follow to go for a Press Release for a directory ?

hire someone that writes press releases and let him/her do it, the right way.

It's get you a back link, but most submitters are not looking at press releases to find out about new directories...

If done on very large bases, hire the top newspapers in your city/country/locality, ads on tv, ads all over the city banner - hoardings, ads all over the net, then its some big launch. Ofcourse it requires a very big budget, but return are big too then. ;)

Or (maybe) hire a blogger to blog it, is that the same as press release? You get content written about your site and some deep links.

I tried spending about $80 on prweb and about $40 on prleap (got into first page). Each has its own advantages. I remember getting into yahoo and google news. On that day i had some good niche traffic and had more sales. Despite that i had good publicity and backlinks. I would recommend a nicely written press release than just an advertising one.

When we did our last one we got over 80,000 Page Views and over a 1,000 pick ups
But then again we spent 200USD on PRWeb and it was not a directory that we did the PR for but we got our ROI 3 times over

I use press releases for major announcements, such as the recent BWL launch.

Often the result of press releases is not seem right away. With that being said, from what I could see so far, this latest one did not do as well as others I have done in the past.

I did a press release for my image hosting directory when I was donating revenue to charity. I honestly dont think it worked too well, because I didnt receive a single submission - yet alone a paid one. I received a few hundred visitors and got a few pickups on various blogs. Spent $80 at prweb and free at prleap.
