Anybody using Microsoft Expression Web ? I heard the software will be very easy to build web 2 applications. But still I remember poor features included in Fronpage 2003. Is it better than Dreamweaver ?

Expression Web is a complete rewrite. No FrontPage code was used to create Expression Web. I would say Expression Web is just as good as Dreamweaver but if you use Microsoft's Platforms like ASP.NET, ASP.NET Ajax or Silverlight then the intergration with Expression Web is amazing and in that case Expression Web is a much much better IDE then Dreamweaver. I currently use Visual Studio 2008 Beta 1 for my Windows and Web Development. VS 2008 Web Projects and Expression Web use the same completely rewritten designer. Expression Web's designer is no longer based on IE like Frontpage's designer was.

Yes, I use Expression Web. I don't like the name but love the tool. There's zero code bloat and very good www compliance so pages tend to pass validation with ease.

I do suggest using a nice big, wide-screen monitor. With all of the tool panels (which are nice to have open) you can lose screen real estate very quickly with standard 4:3 monitors.

Microsoft supporting PHP? I don't use EP, but I seriously doubt that a Microsoft product supports a wild technology like PHP.

(Honestly, I would use PHP if it weren't so shitty - if I wanted a crappy programming language to write web apps with, I'd use C++).

Expression Web doesn't support PHP. Having said that, it is a vast improvement over anything MS have produced in the web dev market.

Does anyone really use a WYSIWYG editor to code PHP anyway??

I thought that's what notepad was for! ;)

Yeah, you're absolutely right. DW is the elite product right now. But let's not forget that if MS want to enter the webdev space they will.

And if they choose to dominate it, they will.

That's not to say it'll be the best, but it'll be the new 'standard'

Like it or not, MS are catching up to Adobe, faster than Adobe can pull away. The 'Cool' factor doesn't hold to a newbie who's just bought her first Dell Inspiron, and has 'Expression Web' sitting on the desktop ready to roll.

I just don't see Adobe doing the same deals with the PC sellers to get their products in front of the new PC owner the way MS can.

*Just to let you all know, I'm not at all a MS fanboy!*

    Thanks,
    Steve
