I've used 1and1 for over 3 years now. I use Joomla on 3+ sites without any problems. I didn't have any problems when it was called Mambo either. My sites have SEF urls. For the amount of space and resources they provide it is quite a good deal too. People only complain about them because they don't know what they are doing in the first place and won't take the time to read faq.1and1.com.

Webavt.com is one of my sites that uses it.

    Hey webavt
I am working on my first Joomla website hosted at 1and1. The SEF feature is not working and I suspect it has something to do with the .htaccess file. Did you tweak your .htaccess code in order to make it work?
BTW the site is in a subdirectory.

    thanks

Dreamhost provides installation of Joomla free for its users, so presumably a lot of people are taking advantage without too many problems.
