It's a way to get sites linked in kind of a 'circle' which makes them all 'backlink' to each other and to your own site thus giving you a big rise in search engines. For example, (very very simple example), you write five articles, each one of them links to another article within the five and links to your main site. Link wheels are now getting much more complex so that they are not easily discovered and penalized.
I have read about "link-wheels" ... and either they must be very complex so they are not discovered. If/when they are discovered... your site can be penalized by SE's. It is better to try to gain incoming and backlinks from directories and other websites that are common categories of yours. I have read that link-wheels are not advised. But, to each his own! It is Better to get links from other peoples websites or blogs if you have become friends with blog owners who will write a review of your site or if they just like your website in general enough to put a link to it in their blogs or website. That's a variation of the old link farm concept, a set of sites on different servers interconnected and linking to the main 'money' site in order to improve it's search engine ranking, more black hat methods may be used in outer spokes not directly linked to the money site, insulating it from any possible negative repercussions. There are Indian crews on webmaster forums who offer to create link wheels.
link wheel is a good concept if we does it in white hat method..its not a link farm or black hat technique..We are publishing the blogs and forums in link wheel to yield maximum publicity,.. And once we did good content in blog entity`s and articles automtically the entity`s will also get indexed and will get good ranking....and thus if we are gettin a backlink to the website obviously it will be counted.. good luck!!..
