I'm thinking of using free classifieds ads to promote a series of stores. Has anybody had any success doing this? If so can you describe what you did & what the results were?

I used free classified ad's for recruitment company with varied results, but it is free so what do you have to lose. Start at Craigslist.com

I have a great deal of time to loose. How did you go about it and can you be more specific about the results?

If anybody else has tried it I'm of course interested in what you have to say.

Sorry I was being flippant, time is money.
I ran some ad's for a client that was looking for 'out-workers'. We ran ad's on Craigslist and other free ad sites nearly a year ago, though most of the ad's were aimed at India, there were also smaller campaigns in US & Canada. There was response from all areas but mostly from India.
Nothing like running a store ad. One problem faced on ad sites is that you start on top and work your way down as new posts are addded to the list. You need to be re sending the ad every day or so. Another tip do not put the exact same advert in different countries/ categories as youy will be banned from the sites.

    Smebus,

Not a problem lots of people, including myself, forget the value of time from time to time. In your opinion, are classified ads something for specialized or very high margin items but not for the normal day to day items? I guess I don't think of many of these ads as being taken out by businesses.

i have never been into classifieds. however, i have seen several people making good use of it. it works best for local classifieds targeting specific geo but will not work the same for world wide audience

try Loqqad for your free classifieds,
it's expanding and will be a local ad engine in near future, so place your ads also for different locations, let them reach more,

craigslist on a local level can be good, all the other free classified sites I have seen were fairly worthless.

My experience w/ Craigs List is that most of the users are from the states or Canada. I've checked other countries - not as many. I'm not quite sure about India though...
