win98 was not so advanced, it was really just what win95 was supposed to be. In typical microsoft fashion they took pieces from other os's and mixed them all up in a bag and called it windows. Win95/98 has so many similarities to os2 it is scary.... microsoft just did it 3 years later with half the performance and 100x the marketing.

There is something I just recently discovered after repartitioned my hard drive.

You must keep your partitions up to 40GB otherwise you will not be able to format them on FAT32 but NTFS and, of course, if you want great performance with a dual boot system (XP/WIN98SE) you need all your partitions being FAT32

FAT32 helps you to disallow the supposed security measures that come with XP, which are more likely a bunch of annoyances aimed to fill your HD with system junk, not really effective "protection" settings.

I had 98 until February. The old computer was too much of a space hog.

A little fact regarding BOB which might interest the domain traders on here. Microsoft held bob.com in their portfolio and swapped it for windows2000.com! A bloody great deal for the chap (called Bob) if you ask me!

    http://www.theregister.co.uk/1999/11/11/windows2000_com_owner_sells_domain/

As for Windows 98. One of my guys went to visit a factory where we have an old 98 machine used for internal email and recording batch number/details. It's a 800mhz machine and he was amazed at how fast it was and they've not yet asked me for an upgrade. When they do I'll know they've discovered youtube and there'll be an angry phone call from me :D

I wrote somewhere about 1% is still using Windows 98. Personally I'm way more comfortable with WinXP.
Not to mention your new hardware might even not run on Win98 :D

Most of us coincide, Vista sucks.

As for XP it is more likely the preferred OS for those with limited skills to take full control of their own computers due to countless limitations to keep ordinary users under control.

No offense, I use XP too when I need to stop being power WIN98SE user to maintain compatibility with XP users features ;)
