The first operating system i used was Win95 ; Windows 95 ...... then Windows 98 ...... then Windows 2000 ..... then Windows XP ..... Still using And every time i upgraded the new version i never looked back
I've been thinking about picking up a laptop with 98 just to play my old DOS games on and basic word processing stuff so I'm not tying up my main computer. You can find one for under 100. It might be worth it for Redneck Rampage alone.
I bought my mother a computer years back with Windows 98 on it. She's still using it to this day. I need to make some $$$ so I can buy her another one, because she will never spend a penny of her own money on a computer.
I remember back a few years (around 2000) people would say "With DOS I never rebooted, with Windows 3.1 I rebooted once a month, with 95 once a week, with 98...ooops, hang on I just froze up." To me the significant jumps were Windows 95 and XP. I lump 98 together with Windows Bob and Windows Me as OSs MS shouldn't ever mention again.
Forget '98. I'm still using Atari TOS I used 98 Lite on a few audio workstations in the early 90s, and it was great.
I had a work computer with it a year ago. Would have been OK had it not been the need for Adobe and loading pages with flash players. Not fun...still...waiting...
Maybe you are referring to Windows 98 the version released after Windows 95 and its problematic winsock, this problem persisted and the Microsoft released the great WIN98SE (SE stands for Second Edition, May 5, 1999) Nothing but true, and it was recognized as the most stable OS by renowned Interned geeks, just Google it to find out more. It is hard but not impossible, query Google with these terms: WIN98, drivers, unofficial... and any other keywords on drivers you may need I started with Windows 3.0 and MS-Dos 5. Since then I have tried all the Windows versions, including the annoying Vista which came preinstalled on my laptop in a hidden partition preventing we could go back to previous versions. However my hubby was clever enough to access that partition and get rid of it. Actually I have a dual boot system with WIN98SE and Windows XP PRO, while he has 4 booting options: MS-DOS 7.10, WIN98SE, Windows XP Home and Windows XP Pro. We don't want to hear again from Windows Vista
Used to use till 5 years back. Currently happy with WinXP SP3. Those days were great with the slower systems but users were a lot more patient then unlike now - Human needs are Unlimited
W98!!! It was indeed a great improvement from Microsoft when comparing it with windows95, but after trying XP I never changed back...or forward Windows Vista is in my opinion a tremendous failure from microsoft
My grandmother has it on a 2nd hard drive. I still have the installation cd and an old computer with it installed lol.
i cant believe that 10yrs had gone since win98 i have seen. Time is flying that fast. One cannot deny that Win98 is super fast with just 256 or 512mb of RAM. I have been in computers since 10yrs and i have experienced every microsoft OS till this date. Windows 3.1 Windows 95 Windows 98 Windows NT4 Windows 98SE Windows 2000 Windows ME Windows XP The only OS i havent tried is vista, and no plans to use until 1 or 2yrs.
And remember, this was the last OS in which you were able to get rid of the annoying welcome and shutdown Windows's screens making the loading and exisiting process even faster, otherwise you were able to customize your own welcome and exiting screens. I have not found yet a way to get rid of that eternal series of Windows XP loading screen and good you have not tried Vista because you can easily can take a nap while it loads even with 2GB of ram!
