I believe they have an $800 fee for it, and it is a yearly fee. You should be able to find that out on your state's web page.
I setup an LLC once for around a total cost of $200 ( that was 3 years ago ). google it and you'll find some good deals.
Its not finding deals, its a state mandated fee. CA has one of the highest fees for it too. Heck, TX, one of the lowest, is 300.
My bad then for misleading you, I just remember specifically paying around $200, and I believe the state fee itself was only around $90.
I sell do-it-yourself kits for setting an limited liability companies (see the link in the my sig...) You can BTW go to my site, click on the state you're interested in and then read through the QuickFacts box at the top of that page. E.g., here's the QuickFacts info on the first kit listed, which is for Alabama: Quick Facts on Alabama LLCs: Initial state fee $75. Current Alabama processing time is roughly 1-6 weeks, depending on your county. Call (334) 242-5324 for more information. Two other comments about LLCs... Comment #1: if you're concerned about cost, you really want to look at the state fees. Some states (Washington) are really good about the their fees. Some (California) are truly terrible. And note that you want to setup your LLC in the state in which you do business. Comment #2: Keep in mind that you get to choose the tax treatment you want for your LLC. I.e., anLLC can be treated as a sole proprietorship or partnership (depending on how many people own entity) or as an S corporation or C corporation. Consultants often save tons by setting up an LLC and then opting for S corporation tax accounting treatment.
