My understanding is that it is a kids attraction at the upcoming Cherry Blossom Festival.

I have never seen a disaster, made into a fun slide for kids, maybe it's just me.

Would anybody be offended if Disney had a Nagasaki Wind Tunnel?

I am not trying to be mean, just trying to understand what different cultures find funny or acceptable.
I mean, it is modeled after the ACTUAL SINKING of the ship!

I think that its been so long since the titanic and countless spoofs have been done about it, its become just another historical event. Aren't most people who were even involved dead now?

I dunno. I can't see getting worked up about it. Don't like it, don't let your kids ride or even visit the fair. What's the big deal?

It's just a fun way for the kids to learn what to do in case of a disaster :)

Maybe you are right, but, using that line of thinking, 50 years from now, a Thailand Tsunami Wave Pool will be O.K.

Just though it was a little insensitive, I'm not mad or anything.

Yes. It's insensitive. But generally, so are kids. If you attach a name that they can recognize to a kid's ride, you'll get higher ticket sales.

I mean come on, Gozilla from the movies was a horror that destroyed cities, ect. Yet how many guys in blow up gozilla suits do we have at fairs? What about king kong suits? Heck, in my area of the USA there's a Gyros place named after the guy (good eats too).

If someone wanted to put together a Japanese themed attraction for kids they'd either call it Tokyo something, or Nagasaki something (maaaybe okanawa something).

Possibly Hiroshima something, but my bet would be on Tokyo 99% of the time.

Godzilla, and King Kong were fictional movies. The titanic was a real event where thousands of people died.
It was the worst maritime tragedy in the history of non-war ship travel.

I Don't think it is very nice to associate a real tragedy and trivialize it as if it were fictional and only a movie with L.Decaprio.
That is how history gets messed up,
I mean, if it were just the ship, it would be different, but to actually pattern it after the actual sinking, and make it into a fun slide, is just more messed up than a soup sandwich. IMO.

I mean, why not just have the kids swings (that go in circles) patterned after German fighters, and as you swing over miniature cities in Europe, you can drop water balloons that simulate bombs, and get points for a direct hit on, let's say, London.
    Just as insensitive.

But that's the point, all that -most- people know about the Titanic is derived from movies and other entertainment based products. So with all of the entertainment based products out there, many people that provide entertainment figure an entertainment based product is okay.

And just because a particular form of 'entertainment' was tragic, doesn't prohibit making a fun ride/suit/theme park out of it.

I got it from someone else that said it was from the attractions at the Cherry Blossom Festival, but from what I understand it has been around other places too, so forgive me for singling out Japan only, at the time that was the info I had, and i have never seen it before.

It is a bit insensitive, even if all the survivors are dead, they still have children.

It's a national tragedy, and a lot of people died. It's not something funny, not suitable for a theme park.

I don't know what's wrong with the people who made this dumb ride. Maybe we should make some theme park based upon some Japanese earthquake that killed a bunch of people. We can call it "shake down" or some dumb crap.
