Anybody Else think Blog Commenting is Overlooked?

I agree with you.
Article/Directory submission is as painful as commenting, so why not go for the later?

If you are after link juice then blog commenting is not really a good long term strategy. If on the other hand you want build your repuatation and become a leader within your niche then go ahead. I am pretty sure that in terms of link juice, blog commenting is close to worthless. Those blogs that do have followed comment links are generally abused. Take a look at some of the blog posts our there where people have lost rankings due to comment spam. What does that tell you?

Those who look to abuse blog commenting are generally people that lack any real creativity and do not have anything of any real quality to market.

 

If people took the time to find blogs they could comment on and actually be relative to the subject it would help. I have some blogs and get tons of auto generated mass email comments that are all spamtastic.
