any1 making money running classifieds?

Hi.
Looking to start a classifieds site with a specific niche.
Was wondering if any1 had some success with classifieds site where the actually made money through paypal.

 

I am also interested to hear what people say on this. You obviously would need a very specific niche since there are so many popular classified sites nowadays. Not sure how one could compete against Craigslist, Gumtree, Kijiji, Backpage and all the other ones out there.

 

I have researched the boating market a bit..i jave some skills on this occupation. Not many around. Have some big boyZ on the market already but was thinking of putting an international site up for diff countries.
But yes like to hear about other successes.

 

I am running a classifieds. So far, I've been doing well. But it's also my 3d year into it. Time is key to getting traffic and loyal customers. I wouldn't say it's an easy niche. The thing with the classifieds is there are hundreds of them out there. So you will really have to stand out to get somebody's attention. You will probably have more luck with a specific niche. Make sure you get as far away as you possibly can from looking like another craigslist, olx or backpage clone. Come up with something unique and innovative.

I dont think they do. Anyways want a passive income out of this...so classifieds is one thing..connected with more ideas.

classified ads is high competition niche.
People stucked at ebay, craiglist , gumtree and other websites which are old, have authority and trust from audience during years.
My personal experience:
I had a wish to try, but using blackhat (link building) burned my project. First three months from start my project start grow--> was not so bad- about 20 pounds from PPC per month. I even was so lucky somebody payed several pounds for premium ads. But Google noticed what I was using and I've got penalty
During that time was a lot of spam- my project was for specific country--> Now my opinion it is the best to run on vps and block all countries exept one if your audience is not worldwide.
Basicly it is very long long way to get money and make successful classified ads website.

 

I would only sell this domain on sedo. Or similar
Not worth it to get next to nothing for it....then ill rather try putting it online and let it work for me.

 

I agree that getting a vps would be a better idea.

 

How do you make revenue on your site? If you dont mind me asking. Cause i see that your ads are free.

Just local ads are free. You can feature or make your local ads urgent for a few bucks, but that's optional. All cities posts (where you can post an ad to all 439 cities) are not free.

i have an excellent classified website, its also for sale.

 

I don't really have any special tips or secrets. I did purchase some Facebook, radio, backlinks and banner advertising gigs early on. That helped to develop some following. But what truly helped me was paid advertising (AdWords & Bing Ads).

 

I'm not against with classified ads when it comes to making money because I consider it less effective when it comes to advertising excluding those old and trusted websites. There are some ways to be more effective in making money online and that by using different platforms as your medium to build your reputation from your targeted audience.
