im currently trying to do some link building to my blog,, most directories i found are paid ones at least asking for $10. If you know any free sites (press release sites, directories or anything else) that can be used to do sum incoming link building just let me know cheers

try to post on search engine directories like http://dir.yahoo.com/, google and etc. post also on social bookmark sites and social networks. Post here http://searchsight.com/Directory.htm .. they approve links quickly.

You could also try socialadr.com Its like a community sharing social bookmarking (SB) links. It gives me 5 free backlinks every day from SB sites and its free to join and share. You will have to sign up to several SB sites but thats a 1 time job.
There are huge number of sites that are non paid but you should keep no-follow and do-follow links provided by these in mind before registering in them .
Forget about directories. Try to bookmark as many your pages as you can to as many social bookmarking sites as you can. The list of social bookmarking sites can be easily found on DP
Free directories are a waste of time... don't bother. Try building a link wheel using social networking and bookmarking sites... that will do more good. Just google "Link Wheel".
