every host that i registered to (paid hosting) tell that they have only 99.90% uptime. so in one month time, it means 3 days offline. i just get sick and tired of those hosting company that shut their servers and than i`m losing my ranking on the web - traffic and money. any suggestion? or should i buy my own server?
Well no, there is no such thing as 100% uptime. Even google and facebook don't have 100% uptime. Secondly, 99.9% uptime doesn't mean 3 days down a month. 90% uptime would mean 3 days down a month. 99.9% is about 1 hour a month. Mind you, these are the estimates / promises that the host makes. Some hosts may be able to do "100%", for a while, until they have an outage. Maybe a year with 100%. Otherwise might be down frequently, but still promise 100% uptime. Anyone can promise anything, what matters is, are things set up to maximize uptime? Or are you promising things you can't deliver? And what happens if there is downtime, or a server crash? Is someone paying attention, and can fix these things quickly?
I think that web host can offer you 100% uptime guarantee and then pay you compensation if there is any downtime
yes. It doesn't mean there won't be any downtime. The same way, "low price guarantees" don't mean the price will always be lowest. It means they'll do something if they turn out to be wrong.
Even if you get your own server, there is still a chance of going down.. IE the network goes down for a myriad of reasons. But yes, I would suggest running your own machine if you want the best uptime.
i heard about cloud hosting, it means they have lots of servers spreads and can backup each other? i also heard about people who hot the same site on 2 diferrent hosting companies and put on the domain DNS, 2 name servers of the 1st host and 2 name servers of another hosting company, will it help?
Well, I have been hosted with Hostgator for over six months with no downtime to date. You may try to see yourself using a one cent trial they are offering with promo code forumsdigitalpoint.
Even with cloud hosting, I've seen it go down. You can do the round robin DNS thing as you mention but it really depends on how your site is setup. And it really depends on the content. Are you going to be replicating the data? (if it was dynamic) then what happens when a server goes down? You'll have to deal with alot of complex and unnecessary issues. If you're worried about things going down for days (IE 3 days out of the month).. I suggest you switch hosting because that is not a normal downtime. Usually the host might bring down a server to add ram or such.. it should only take 30mins to 1 hour. That won't kill your ranking. But then again if your site was making a ton of money then you can afford to have many servers and hire people to set up your site so there will be minimal downtime.. But in the end.. I don't think its worth all that trouble until you hit it big. But do ignore me if your site was making a ton of money. In that case hire some pros to work out something complex
