At my job we provide some tutorials to help computer users (including our customers) out in solving some of their own computer problems. We use the same basic 4 page template for style and so forth. If another infection is just a re-hash of an old one, and can be removed the same way, but with a few minute changes in the steps, we just alter a copy of the old tutorial. The below instruct you on how to remove certain problem programs that Norton, Spyware Search and Destroy, and Lavasoft's Adaware have trouble removing, as well as having instructions on how to help prevent the infections. Following the instructions may also help to fix some other problems your computer may be experiencing. I can't change the MAIN site wide template such as the banner, the top links, the side bar, and the bottom bar at this point, but if anyone can point changes to the style of the tutorial here and there I can make, those changes will carry forward to future tutorials. These are the tutorials I have done so far under the template. Remove AlfaCleaner Remove SpyHeal Remove SpyTrooper Remove SpywareStrike Remove Trust Cleaner Remove VirusBurst Since all of the above are just alterations of the same instruction set, here's one that my boss did. I can't really change anything on it, but I thought it might help to differentiate between the tutorial specific material and the tutorial style. Remove Norton
Here's another one that uses the template, but I've been editing it. Remove Nuvens Unfortunately I haven't yet gotten together any graphics to space out the text. I'm having some trouble thinking of what graphics to use other than perhaps a screen shot of a smitRem window, or maybe one of the icons I tell people to click on...
The tutorials are very informative. One thing I might suggest is a more visible note part, like can be noted on the virus burst tutorial. Instead of indicating it's importance by using horizontal rulers, you could wrap the note in a DIV container with a dark red border. You could also perhaps give it a slightly larger line-height to add a bit of space around each line of text. Keep up the great work.
Jarad: Thanks! I guess the line height -would- make it more noticeable. I'll try the red border, and may even change the background color of the div to make it stand out even more. I think yellow might work well for this. Any other opinions?
I'm not so crazy about the bright blue hyperlinks... that color gets to me. I like the rest of the site though. It really pops.
Thanks! We're using the blue hyperlinks because that's actually the default color for most browsers, so the average user is used to them.
fair enough. I always wondered why they went with that color as default? Maybe b/c it is sooooooo bright...
Probably because no one sane would make -all- of their text that color, so it'll stand out on almost any page.
Just for more reference in case anyone wants to compare, my boss put together another one page while I was working on other tutorials. It's located here: Ready Boost I'm currently working on a new tutorial that will hopefully take these great suggestions so far into account. I'll post a link when I have it ready.
Well, I've finished putting together yet another tutorial, this one is on how to Remove Puper. I instituted a few of the suggestions. First of all I added some line spacing. Second, I made the notice a bit more noticeable. "Thank you for noticing our notice. Your noticing has been noticed by the proper authorities." I know I need to get some screen shots in there, and I'm probably glossing over some stuff that some people could use additional information on. Any suggestions on either style or content?
Big blue fonts do not give a professional feel. Also the header image is way too big, and has some color theme problems too.
The top banner, the menu, the grey box to the side and the bottom banner are not currently in my ability to control. Those are site wide. However we will be doing a template redesign in the near future. What big blue fonts are you refering to in particular?
Well I've got another one up with a new template. Power Cycle Computer This one uses a 1 page article format my boss gave me to use. Any ideas on this one?
