I've come across some sites who use alot of bandwidth and was wondering who they are hosted with (perhaps they pay less money or something). I'm looking to create a site which uses 600-900GB a month. Is there a tool/site which I can use to find out who hosts a particular site?
Find out the IP address of the web site and look it up at www.arin.net. This tells you who owns the IP so it doesn't always work to find the actual hosting company. For example, I can see that Liquidweb owns the IP for the site in your signature. My IP's are owned by The Planet and resold to me by a hosting company called Dathorn.
Thanks. i couldn't see on the Arin site where to search for the domain and I don't know the IP address, I st know the URL. I tried WhoIS before posting this request. Seems like they use a domain protector service. I can see who registered their domain name, but not sure about the hosting.
simple tracert (dos or traceroute unix) with dns lookup switched on usually shows you the last hop which usually is the provider / ISP M
i remember there was this one site whohostsyoursite.com or something like that.... i forgot it. darn it.
Domain Dossier is really nice - thanks. There are numerous DNS/traceroute/Whois services on the net, but DD seems to pull together my favorite ones.
I know this thread is old. But thought I would add. To find out who hosts a site I use http://who-hosts.com/ it's the only accurate one I could find. Hope this helps someone. Chad
