I am looking for a VPS (something similar) which offers shared hosting like experience. I mean, I do not have to maintain server related things, like security, hardening and so on. I just need some good amount of Resources as compared to shared hosting and focus on blogging, offering services and WP. Anyone have experience with Bluehost Pro package, or real reviews? Thanks in advance!
You will be looking for a managed VPS, or a management service to handle your unmanaged VPS. They will take care of things like security, etc. As far as Bluehost, I have heard of generally happy people there, but they can be very strict on resource usage. Too much disk space, too much bandwidth, too much CPU, too much RAM, and you're gone, no questions asked. If you know you need VPS-level resources, shared hosting most likely isn't for you.
Will hostgator will be good to try? They offer fully managed service, But I have doubt if they will provide Shared hosting like experience.
I use knownhost.com. Which is a managed hosting service. Their support and uptime is brilliant quite cheap too especially when they are so brilliant.
Yep, Knownhost is very good. You're going to pay for it, but you certainly get what you pay for when it comes to fully-managed VPS They are one of the best companies out there.
If you are looking for reliable host with quality offers you should try Hostome.com, trustworthy and cheap host with stable plans.
You need to find a quality fully managed provider. They will handle everything server and let you just worry with your site. Make sure you find one that doesn't charge extra for support tickets, backups, etc. These fees can add up quick.
Are there really fully-managed providers who charge for support tickets? Been in the business 15 years and have never heard of that. You pay for management, then pay again when you want to contact them for that management? ROFL! I don't think so.
I am not going to name names But take a look around and read some of the fine print of the competition, you would be shocked at what some companies charge "hidden" fees for.
Holy crap, I certainly would be shocked. ha ha! I had no idea, to be honest. I know companies charge for backups and that's a whole different issue, but charging for support tickets? Now you've got me interested and I have some extra time tonight. This is not going to be good.
There are a lot of VPS out there. I have come into a good VPS service lately. You can check Java VPS Hosting Service. They offer Free setup, all you need to do is using it.
I'd have to agree with most on this thread. A VPS solution is a good place to start. New cloud technologies are making going down that route much more affordable as well, and you can get a lot more for your money. I'd highly recommend Storm on Demand for a cloud-based server. This is similar to a VPS, but much better. $35 gets you a basic server with 1GB RAM, 1 CPU and 75GB disk space. Outgoing bandwidth is $.05 per GB, incoming bandwidth is free. $20 a month extra gets you their managed service which includes cPanel/WHM (the "shared hosting like experience") you are looking for. So that's basically your own managed server for $55 a month. You can create new servers and upgrade/downgrade your servers at anytime on the fly without needing support, which is very convenient. I use these cloud based servers (a higher service plan) for my shared web hosting company, http://seriouslyhosting.com, and absolutely love it. As far as a review on Bluehost, hostgator, or any of those "Unlimited" shared hosting providers - definitely steer clear, especially if you are expecting high resource usage. They'll drop, suspend, or throttle you in a heartbeat. There is no such thing as "unlimited"; all these services are oversold and the providers have very restrictive Terms of Service to keep usage low.
