Inner pages made for keywords and their links given in footer will make any difference in PR or SERPs?
I worked on a ecomm site where we added all the top level categories, and several key products to the footer of all the pages via an include. Google and Yahoo both gave us a better position in the SERP even for content NOT in the footer links.
Footer links works same as anyother links on the site... Footer links are great - you can see lot of people buy footer links(sponsored links) on wordpress, vbulletin, phpld and other templates.. This is the easiest way to get lot of backlinks.
strangely enough i tried a little experiment with my site. i had some footer links with our keywords in the anchor text and we didnt no if they where making a difference. so just as a trial i removed them and weird thing was - our SERP's improved! no idea why. anyone got any theories?
Having a link in the footer is better than no link but I'm quite sceptical about footer links in general. They are usually too far from the main content of the website therefore they have less importance than links in the body of the site. But as far as they are relevant I'd go for them.
more than likely i would guess. originally the idea was to help navigation but if it was viewed as keyword stuffing (in theory) then may have been doing more harm than good.
Difficult to argue that without any proof but in my experience links in article body which are close to the keywords and title are of a more value than links in the footer.
