Other than submitting to search engines, rss product feed, social bookmarking, youtube etc.

I know we need to do link exchanges but what else?

    Cheers,

    James.

    Hi James,

I have sent you a PM to help - I would say, you probably need to consider a lot more than link exchanges to get significant targeted traffic to your website.

There are several paid & free ways of marketing any website. Have you considered Google Adwords for some immdediate traffic?

That would somewhat depend on the type of site you have. Does the site simply talk about clothing, sell brand name stuff, or sell items by a new designer? If the site is for a designer or talks about constructing clothing, I could offer you some suggestions beyond what my signature offers.

Clothing is such a huge marketplace. There would be a number of different ways to advertise a "clothing" site that would be dependent upon the answer to my original question.

For example, I would definitely market a site selling Designer X (some well known designer) clothes differently than a site that simply talks about trends in clothing and what Designer X is doing. If the site sells Designer X knock offs, that would require a different strategy than if the site had tutorials and conversation about how to construct your own Designer X knock-offs. If Designer Y (some new designer) is selling their own line or their original patterns, the marketing would be different than it would were the designer as well known as Designer X is.

Then if you start getting into the type of clothes (hats, coats, shirts, pants, etc) that opens up a whole new realm of possibilities.

Could you specify your clothing niche? Are you doing expensive clothing, cotton clothing, selling clothing or what?

It is urban/hip hop clothing. The niches are New Era fitted dipset caps, Dark N Cold T Shirts & Jeans, Hoodies, Ecko track jackets & polo shirts, Rocawear jackets, etc. The main range the shop sells is the New Era hats. They get all the latest products and only ever buy six of each so there is less chance of seeing someone else wearing the same thing. The shop is three months ahead of the competition in terms of new stock. And the prices are low.

Looking forward to more specific advice guys :)

you can post some of the clothes in social bookmarking sites and place some catchy words on it to attract visitors.

Go to your local popular clothing store, walk in with a pissed off look on your face, rudely scream at the lady at the desk letting her and everyone shopping there know that the clothes you bought there were made by poor "slave kids", gave you a rash on your balls and had boogers on them.

Then "drop" your flyer advertisments on the floor as you walk away

Run an online contest. Give out a bunch of cool clothing in exchange for people blogging about your site or joining your email list :) People love getting free stuff. Promote it on some fashion forums, post it to Digg, and contact a few big fashion bloggers about it.

Go to forums that have your target demographic and become a contributing and active member. Quietly put the link in your signature. DO NOT SPAM!!! Put out the bait and let them come to you. Once you start to get a bit of reputation on the forum, then and only then drop links and invites in your posts where it's appropriate. Do not be a one post wonder who shows up, drops links, and disappears - you will hurt your brand that way.

I would definitely play up the "get it here first angle".

If it is a new site, start with directory submissions.

If you have a opt-in email list you can advertise to customers that way

Try researching other websites within the same keyword category as you and see where they're getting their links from.
