I have a soccer forum that is basically brand new and I have spent most of my time getting it up to a pr4 page rank.

Now I need members and any ideas that anyone may have on marketing this niche.

    All help appreciated.

    Thanks in advance. :)

For starter: make a facebook fan page and invite all your friends. Then, write short news feeds every day and attach the link to the forum. Forum alone is very hard to make it alive. Try to add some content like news from sport and stuff.

    Hello,
It seems traffic pays the bills better than the PR does. ;)
    Well done on the PR.

College sites/forums would be a great place to hit as well as any types of sporting sites.
You can often get banners on many of these sites for just a few bucks per month.

I would suggest starting some sort of activity to get people interested and involved.
Any type of game geared around football would work.
Perhaps give away an Ipod to whomever selects certain picks correctly.
Or start some trivia questions and give out an Ipod to the person with the most points after xx months.
It is endless in what types of competition you might have. Just make the prize attractive even if it's just a trophy.

Any type of competition will make the forum fun and attract attention.

    Good luck!

If i were you - i'd try to indulge in offline marketing tactics like promoting the site in schools, probably giving out free footballs with the site name imprinted, or much cheaper would be to hold interesting competitions amongst football freaks .... sometimes offline marketing can do magic!

Open a youtube channel and make a weekly boardcast show. Something like ESPN sportscenter, for example.

Submit your site to related forums and also make your own youtube videos with your website link on your videos. Use Twitter as well. Go to Google and type in 'Twellow' This tool is like the yellow pages of twttier. Just find your category which is football and this will display all the people intersted in football and all there friends. All you need to do then is find a mass friend adder tool for Twitter and you should be golden. Targetted marketing is the key.

    Thanks

Run some contest and give away a jersey or something similar. Free contest always drum up interest.

There are plenty of free contest sites that let you post your contest for free as well.

will i would suggest google forum directories and start posting also find incentives for those who are already members to bring others in and join. It could be some thing simple there are many ways to get people into competition to promote your site just be a little creative also try some press releases .

Make posts in other forums about sports and include your link in the signature. This way the interested people frequenting those forums will come and check out your forum also. make sure you have got enough posts to start with before you do this or visitors will be faced with an empty forum which is not good.

Make some offline promotion first, make some shirts with your forum url, youtube videos, and some viral marketing.

To drive traffic to your site you should also try offline marketing such as sending postcards to qualified prospects. Print your link on the postscard along with your message that briefly describes about your niche.

Join some forums related to sport and post the links of yours there. Create a Facebook fan page and group and try to build connections as many as you can so that more and more people will come to know about it. Create some youtube videos , simple videos related to football and in the end you may ask yo come to your site for more discussions , etc . Beside Facebook , join some more networking sites like twitter , ezdia , Myspace and try there too , these are not related to your niche but helps in growing your network and thus you may be able to introduce more and more people about your site.

Do your forum accept signatures along with the post . . . if not then do allow ... then more members will join it .
Secondly improve the keywords ranks on search engine and properly edit meta tags . . .

Hot girls ......... hot girls ............. hot girls.

Start discussions about wives and girlfriends of footballers (who is hot, who is naughty, who is ugly etc). Post some quality pictures of them by creating a thread with photos of all major hot babes associated with footballers.
