Research on your niche first and build a list of keywords commonly used within the niche. Then, look at each of those keywords using a keyword research tool like the Google Adwords Keyword tool or Traffic Travis. Choose those that have mid to low competition with high monthly searches.

Hope that helps. Have a good day!

Yes, there is a technique. A good keyword should have the following factors
    1. Highly relevant.
    2. Low competition
    3. Traffic
    4. High commercial value.

Use your brain, and skip expensive tools. Let Google help you find keywords that a keyword tool won't.

Keywords like "how to cure____" are played out, and way too competitive for you to rank in unless you are really really patient. So start typing things into google and let Google suggest tell you what people are typing in.

You could type something like "what is the best acne a" where Google will fill in what's after "a". Look at the suggestions, and put THOSE in the keyword tool, then look at them. Are the results on purpose, meaning are people TRYING to rank for them, or are they a bunch of forum posts and Yahoo! answers?

Doing just that I came up with "best face wash for acne prone skin" which is totally untapped. It's also not a huge keyword, giving only 320 exact results, but you could potentially rank for it fast.

Now replace the "a" with a "b" or "ab" and just let Google tell you what people are typing in. Don't laugh off this technique. I've found 40k exact match keywords that had NO competition at all, because all of your competitors are using "how to cure acne"!

Now just replace "acne" with your niche, and use your brain. Works like a charm.

Those keywords which you think can bring business for your site are best keywords, do some brain storming with various keyword research tools based on search volumes and competition and pick the best set of keywords targeting for your website.

Hi, Do Competitor research for you business and check what keywords they used & check the competition of those keywords. Use Long tails keywords that best describes your business. Use Google Keywords tool to check to the competition of keywords across various countries. The Keywords you choose must have a high search volume & low in competition.

Google Adwords Keyword Tool is a free tool that you can use. However, it will be replaced soon by something else (Keyword planner?).

Here´s a video that shows how it works:

There are also great professional keywords analysis tools available, like for instance MarketSamurai.com.This is the tool that many Internet marketing professionals use.I personally think it is a great investment if you are looking to build niche blogs or just want to tweak your keywords to rank better in the search engines.

Google's reported measurement of level of competition is for PPC advertising only; it has nothing to do with organic search. AdWords data shows you what keywords/phrases advertisers are bidding on, not what query strings are being searched for.

If you are looking to optimize your website organically, you would need to look into organic traffic and competition stats. That’s a huge research...Whenever I am optimizing my site for profitable keywords, I make sure I keep “Keyword Country” handy. Unlike other paid keyword research tools that pull and produce data directly from Google, KC generates a clean list of groups and keywords that you can directly use to create better content pages. It offers a free trial, you can bail out whenever you wish to :)

3 Things YOU Need to Know :D
    ----
If you are trying to see whether a product or an affiliate offer is worth putting up a site and promote, then you need to go through these 3 keyword research and analysis criteria to find its worth.

Place your product name in Google Keyword tool, and under "broad" match, you should at least be looking for:

    1) 5 keywords - If the product name has at least 5 different keywords, then its an indication that it is popular and people are searching it using different keywords. If you see MORE keywords, better for you as you have more "opportunity" to rank for them too.

    2) Keywords with HIGH search volume - Generally, you want to target keywords that have more than 2,000 search volume, no matter its competition.

    3) Look for "High Quality" Keywords - High quality keywords have HIGH conversion rate. People searching for these keywords are usually in the verge of buying. Just consider the keyword such as, "Buy product name," "Cheap product name," "Product name discount," and so on.

People already know about the product, they also know they can find one on cheap price or get one on discount. These keywords converts really well and you SHOULD target these keyword research first.

Hope you found these 3 critical keyword research and analysis method helpful!

    Cheers, :)
