Hosting is a very tough program to compete in. So many sites offer it and prices vary from high to so cheap i have no idea how and if they make any money.

You can make money but it is one of the hardest to make good money on.

Indeed it's a competitive niche. You'll have to really think outside the box to succeed with it. A popular way is offering free hosting yourself, with possibility to "upgrade" to Hostgator or whatever.

I was thinking to create my own hosting company but I saw that there is too much competition with prices I could not offer so I rather used their affiliate programs to make little review site like this http://www.webhostingeye.com

I promoted hosting affiliates for a while as well. I had horrible success trying to promote hosting services directly, especially through adwords, ooph lost a lot of money there :)

What I found worked best was to create guides and write articles on how to build a website aimed at beginners. I would include my affiliate links throughout the text "Step 1: Set up a hosting account". and then you get the idea. The great thing is that I didn't spend a dime on advertising because I would submit the guides to article directories, and forums.

As meln said, you have to think outside the box. Don't try to compete for common keywords on adwords unless you have deep pockets, or go for long tailed keywords.

As for which program is best, I had the most success with Yahoo and GoDaddy. Probably because of my target audience, they reacted better to a recognizable brand.

Make your guide more detailed, right now you're just throwing a bunch of information at them without any real structure. Also I would suggest to avoid banner ads, it makes it too obvious that you're promoting these services. Instead write something more along the lines of "For web hosting I recommend using HostGator as it is very user friendly and also offers the lowest prices on the net."

Don't just talk about price, give the reader another reason to go with this hosting company.

If you're going after a more knowledgeable market, then talk more about the added benefits such as reliability, extra options (for example GoDaddy offers a whole list of cheap options such as Traffic Blazer).

I've had an unsuccessful experience with web hosting affiliate marketing through PPC advertising. The web hosting market is one of the most competitive markets on the web and you have almost no chance in it with a limited budget.

If you're not already deep into it I'd suggest that you find another niche IMO.
