For you guys and gals effectively using social bookmarking there is something I am unsure of. There seems to be two types of social bookmarking websites. There are those that post a short snippet that shows up in the SERPS and links to your webpage. For example:

    Digg
    Slashdot
    Indianpad
    Propeller

Then there are the websites that simply create a bookmark and file it in your profile. These are:

    Furl
    Backflip
    Delicious
    Reddit

Now it seems that almost all of my traffic comes from the the websites from option #1. Can someone please explain the difference between the two because I am a bit hazy on it. And how can you better take advantage of websites like Furl, Delicious, and Reddit to drive traffic to your site?

Just get as many bookmarks as possible, there are sites where you can purchase bookmarks
I always go to them when I want to push a new blog post, I'll get a few hundred bookmarks for 40-50 different bookmarking sites.

ps.. you should try stumble, I don't see if listed in your groups

I don't quite understand the benefit of stumble. Can someone explain it to me? It brings traffic sure but it is largely untargeted. Is it more of an SEO benefit than traffic benefit?

there are dofollow and nofollow SB sites. if you submit to dofollow bookmarking sites, then you get backlinks. since these bookmarks are public, anyone can visit these sites and someone might end up clicking on your link. just keep submitting is my advice.

btw, you can look at my social bookmarking lens for more info

This does not really answer my question. I understand the difference between NoFollow and DoFollow. My question was there seems to be two different types of social bookmarking websites. One where you bookmark a list of "favorites" (like Furl) while the other you post a short snippet of a website that shows up in the SERPS (like Digg). I am trying to understand the difference.

For your site to get indexed quickly, you can stumble your site so that search engines bots would easily crawl changes in your site.

i think social bookmarking is not only for direct hits but also for link building.

i can offer you some links from lots of social bookmarks (mostly german) ones if you make me some bookmarks from social bookmarks from other countries.
