As for blogging, a valuable and relevant content is a MUST plus having those plugins that will help in the SEO side. To build links, article marketing, social bookmarking and blog commenting on high authority ones is the best way to start.

There is no any shortcut method to get easy backlinks, you have to do a lot of work for this. Quality posts on your blog do it automatically for you. Comments on different forums may also work for you.
