    Hi,

Plz help me in following queries..

Suppose i have a website and some of my pages are indexed in google and i got good PR for those pages..

But the pages indexed are in the format like 1234.html, now programmers changed the code, so automatically pages are changed to page-title.html.

Now what happens to previously indexed pages along with PR?

I think it clears you..plz solve it...

    thank you..

it depends on where the pr comes from, if it comes from external links, you need to get onto the people who link to you to change it otherwise you can virtually wave the pr goodbye. You can use redirect but there is no guarantee all the pr juice is passed on.

if its internal pr, then use redirects anyway and it will naturally find its way round, pr is updated constantly but we only see a visual update every few months.

you just need to use 301 redirect so that google will recognize the old url.

    Thing to do:

    1. Generate a list of old URLs (1234.html)
    2. Create 301 redirects that will go to your new URLs (keyword-page.html)
    3. Generate Sitemap page and zip file, submit to google using webmaster tool
    4. Use Xenu software to catch broken links

    Scenario:
Google will crawl again your website but with the new link structure using keyword-page.html normally your old pages will lose their PR but if your main page's PR will pass link juice to your new pages, so you wait till next PR update

if found useful, pls do +rep thanks :D

yeah you are right, but these will be new pages for search engines so once you will lose PR and index. Doing you suggested things might bring PR later on, but it's not sure that you will get the same pr and priority by search engines.

    Am I right??

Thank you for all your replies..actually we will go for 301 redirects and its ok but..suppose if we are running a forum and thousands of pages are indexed with 1234.html and if we installed mod and the mod converting previous and coming pages to page-title.html..In this case google automatically changes PR of old to new or again we have redirect all thousands of pages? hope you understand the query...
