While anyone could recommend you his own directory (I could do that) I will tell you this:

    - search for directories with good PR (>2)
    - look for older directories (these are already indexed by Google)
    - take a look at the listings - are they clean? avoid spammy directories
    - look for a good price $1 for PR2/PR3 listing is a great price for example

    good luck!

    Besides - web-directories.ws & whenweseo.com list -

you may also check this list -

    http://www.greatdirectories.org/paid.html

The list is of good reference as it has up- to- date information and pricing.

    I like your reference/example.

I am particularly fond of that directory's this page --

    http://www.webotopia.org/index.php?reject=1

I also like CM the promoter who is very forthcoming and responsive.

As far as my understanding goes - it is part of a very old -quality network of directories and lots of DMOZ editors edit those listings.:)

A good feature for sure. However, it kinda slaps on the face of the submitter. What if someone submits a website (without the owner of the website knowing about it) and doesnt make payment...Would such an open declaration like "Site rejected because payment was not made"...make the business look spammy...competitors could use this to degrade their rivals :)

    I mean...its a possibility...

    Buddy ..

If I were in your place ........ I wouldn't have asked that question.

Almost 95% of submitter in my directories come from renowned SEO firms ( u know that from their Paypal ID) -- and they submit to only those directories they think fulfill their purposes.

So, its only those SPAMMERs who think each and every directory is FREE for review and if you tell me - they do it intentionally.:(

Please check the SPAM submitter behavior - they use proxies - but behavior/and timing is same.

They submit through those F..........ng.. automated or semi-automated softwares.

I think - I have banned few thousand URLs just because the innocent owners hired those THUGS.:(

Honest webmasters of good/quality sites also should be educated that all web directories are not poorly maintained!!!!! PERIOD!

So what Christian is doing is good lesson for those webmasters who have good sites but want to spend little for their success and thus fall into SPAMMER's hands @ cheap prices for directory submissions.

This directory is absolutely paid. It's not surprising that those webmaster that submitted their sites but didn't pay for the add - get to the list of Reject.
    See below under each reject:
"Reason for rejection: Payment was not made."

    - It fair sanction. Many directories simply haven't such page - but it doesn't mean that all sites will be accepted by them.

But we move away from the topic - I gave an example of exellent directory, even though their PR is not too high. Ratio of money/benefit for SERP - is also excellent.
Again - I do not advertise this directory.

It's true. But you can always contact to owner of directory and explain the situation.
There is much more effective ways to make harm to competitors).
But it is not fair, and it's better not to do dirty tricks.
