Any Problem with Two Navigation Frames

I'm pretty much a beginner, so bear with me...

I have a pretty specific page layout I'm interested in using for my web site, but it would require two navigation frames, one left and one right, with a content frame in the middle.

Are there any basic problems with this setup? :)

Ahh...my first day and first post at Digital Point...and I feel so at home and welcome already. I thought you could only find this kind of warmth in a gaming forum.

Somehow I doubt this thread even begins to touch on the extent of things you have problems with.

Opinion?? It was nothing but a simple question until you sidetracked it with your attitude. And yeah...I really wanted to up my post count from 0 to 1!! I'm sure that's the type of thing that occupies your mind...at least when it's not occupied with your venemous thoughts and lousy attitude. But don't assume it's true of others.

What I wanted from my post...I know this is going to seem radical to you...was some information and assistance.

Since this was my first post and I don't have a lot vested in this web site, I don't really care if I get banned, so I'll just say...

The internet and forums like this thrive and prosper in spite of people of your ilk. You approach something assuming the worst and rarely find anything positive, even though the intention and attitude of most who (virtually) surround you is nothing but positive. If I cared about those like you at all, I would pity you. But since I don't, just go wallow in your dark little world.

Good news for you though...you get the last word! My only regret so far is that I'll never get the time back that I've wasting responding to your tripe. I will waste no more.

You ask "Are there any basic problems with this setup?", "having two navigation frames, one left and one right, with a content frame in the middle.".

Why would there be a problem with any layout you choose?...It's a matter of your opinion, taste, view, judgement, and nothing more. Have a great day! :)

If anybody else is still reading this thread...I wouldn't blame you if you didn't  ...I'd still welcome any constructive input. As I said in my OP, "I'm pretty much a beginner...", so what may seem obvious to the more experienced is not necessarily obvious to others.

I've looked at a ton of templates, suggested forms, etc. and all have had a single navigation frame. It got me wondering if there might not be some potential problem with two navigation frames. I'd rather find out now than later. If not, great! I'd just like to hear it from a reasonable source.

Frames are pretty much frowned upon nowadays as you really can make that site without them.

I remember back a while they were all the rage and now you rarely see them.

Why are they frowned upon? The internet has gone further than the home computer. You've now got PDAs and the like. Not all of these "other browsing areas" support frames and of those that do, not all of them properly.

Now you're probably thinking how else can I display my menu?

You've got two options: Javascript (1) and PHP (2)

    1. Using Javascript you can "float" your menu so it stays in view but moving objects can become annoying plus if someone has Javascript disabled (some do!) your menu won't appear.

    2. If you're using HTML convert the pages to PHP. Easier said than done, yes but, also means for easier maintenance.

Imagine you have 10 pages. You have your menu appear on all pages and you change one page you have to change them all (this is where frames helped out). Now you "cut" the menu and save it as a separate file and use PHPs include() function on all your pages to call it in.

If you want more info - ask ;)
