better password resets and backup codes i think https://xenforo.com/community/threads/two-step-verification-and-security-improvements.99881/
I was hoping that since you have such strong opinions you could summarise the differences rather than just whinging about it.
As a blanket rule that's a pretty dangerous philosophy. Talk to the users of phpLD when it when up to version 5 and they were really unhappy with the new version and refused to upgrade. I guess now we find out the consequences of not upgrading? What will you do?
While running on latest (or at least semi-latest) version can sometimes be prudent, you will soon learn that most proper hosting companies, security firms etc. runs on a version a couple steps after the latest one - depending on release schedule. For yearly releases, maybe they run on latest, but for run-on releases, there will always be a bit of slack - simply because the latest version are rarely 100% secure or tested, and there is always things that can break. If there is no significant improvement for a new version, then there is really no reason to upgrade. If the "new" stuff is purely cosmetical, or fancy, and of no real value to either the users or the admins, then there isn't really any reason to upgrade (yet). Especially if quite a bit of the hype is due to things that could have been, and possible are, implemented via customized functionality in the existing version. You're talking about improved 2-factor authentication. Are you using the _current_ 2-factor authentication here? Personally, I don't see the point. If anyone hacks my account, they get access to, and can fuck up, my account at DP. That's it. It's gonna be annoying, but I'm sure I would get it back, and manage to fix whatever mess they make - if I can be bothered. There is nothing of value here. Nothing significant, no personal information, no sensitive information, no access to other systems. Hence, 2-factor on a forum is mostly for show, with no real purpose.

Because every forum I've been involved with has attracted "characters" who create problems and demand that content be removed and bring in the lawyers. It takes balls to stand there and let the content remain. The first time it happens you go hot and cold and feel sick. Eventually, you get used to it. Think that won't happen with a Utah fish forum? Maybe not, but where there's money to be made there will be problems. It might be a guy selling his dodgy fish or dodgy tanks through your forum who doesn't like the negative feedback he gets.
A guy said he was going to sue me because I banned him for trying to sell bottles of prime through his "wholesale licence". Another guy wanted his account deleted and I wouldn't so then I said I could close his account but his title would be "shamefully banned" and after that he left me alone.
Improved how exactly? To be honest, I think the one we have is superior to the one built into XF 1.5, and if we were on 1.5, we would continue to use ours, not the default one.
Nope... really doesn't interest me until it's a shipping product. At that point we'll weigh if the upgrade is worth it or not.
It is easy to upgrade to 1.5. There is an add-on that makes upgrades easy. You just install it and press update and you're done. I use it on my site.
Does this add-on you speak of also upgrade a little more than a million lines of your own code to make to compatible with 1.5? You still haven't mentioned why you think it's a worthwhile upgrade. So far the only mention has been two-step authentication, which we already have here (and you don't even use).
