Hello Guys, I want to do a 301 redirect from my old url-rewritten pages to new url-rewritten pages. All my old url-rewritten pages have gone into supplemental, so I have created new pages with new meta-tags, shorter urls, and new content on pages. If I do a 301 redirect from the old pages to the new ones, will it be negative in any way since the old url are in the supplemental index? Any thoughts guys !!!!
It is perfectly alright .. I did the same thing for one of my site... It worked pretty well for me...
Thanks for sharing your expeirence with the issue. Even though the old urls are in the suppelemental index and dont rank well, there are some pages that do rank decent and any traffic is good trafic so thats why i am bothering to even do the 301 redirect. As long as the urls in the supplemental index dont have any affect on the new urls. How does 301 redirect actually work? when someone clicks on the old url, what do they see ? does it load the old url and then take a second to redirect o the new url ? how exactly does it work ? any ideas !
If you create a .htaccess file you will be fine. Only downside is you will need to wait for Google to re-index and hopefully maintain your rankings on the new page (As long as you keep the same content). -Dal
that has been done before to get out of the pages from supplemental result. the new pages will become the supplemental result after a while
