Can you please elaborate. I would appreciate if you could outline the process for the dpers. I am desperate trying to rank my site on yahoo search results. I hardly get any one visiting my sites from yahoo.

If you optimize for Google you most likely will be fine for yahoo too. It just takes yahoo longer to index as many of your pages as google indexes. be patient and you will see an increase of traffic coming from yahoo too.
yahoo site explorer is a good tool for having an eye on how yahoo indexes your pages and to check for inbound links (backlinks)
also make sure to submit your sitemap to yahoo.
    cheers

Let me try the sitemap submission too. Do you have the link where I could submit sitemap like we do in Google webmaster tools. I already have submitted the site feeds to yahoo but with no effect. Number of pages indexed still falls too short compared to actual. I have waited enough as I know it takes more time for Yahoo to index in comparison with Google.

Your sitemap will be submitted as a feed with yahoo. so if you already have done that, there is no need to do more. Once in a while you might wanna resubmit it, but don't overdo that. (any 2 - 3 months)
Ok, my shop has been up since mid October of last year and I have roughly 2500 pages. Google has cached 1700 and yahoo lousy 800. My site was indexed from both search engines as pretty much the same time because I had a strong backlink coming to my site. I didn't even have to submit it for indexing. But that's another subject.
What I'm trying to tell you is you have to be patient with yahoo and even more patient with BING in case you have submitted your site to them too.
Now after 4 months of my shop being live I just can see a slightly increase coming from yahoo too.
Keep adding good content and publish your site in other ways too so you will not rely on yahoo or google only.
For whatever reason the traffic from google went way downhills for my shop.
So what I do is trying to find other traffic sources to make that up again, sources like social bookmarking, twitter, facebook, blog commenting etc.
    cheers

Now I got the facts clear. Thanks a lot for the detailed explanation. I am doing some link building especially in the form of article submissions. And Iam pretty happy that the turn around is faster than I expected in case of Google. Yahoo is still trailing behind. Good luck to you too on your efforts on social media optimisation process. Hope you find enormous traffic from the means you adopt. Please do share the result with us without fail.
    Thanks verdecove.

You are very welcome. It's harder to get your site up and getting an at least decent traffic than I would have dreamed about at the time I got started with this. And believe me, I'm not one of the profis here in this forum they know the good sources and tricks. I steal information together as you do and learn every day something new additional and what I learned and worked for me I of course will share.

Google is well known for the up and down's. today #1 tomorrow way down.
and even worse now since google is making or made changes in their algorithm.
any changes you make on your site will take time for google to hopefully recognize them in the positive way you expect.
just one good advice, don't mess too much with your title tags!
changing them can cause you lots of serp loss and it will take quite a while for you to come back.
    cheers
