I was just wondering if there were any active Telecom Services editors left here... I submited three sites to this catagory over the last two years and none were ever listed. the sites I submitted were not spammy in any way and were legit sites that have been around for years and belonged to well established publicly traded companies.
I know there is an editor(s) for the category but just wondering if they are active or not since I haven't seen any new listings in this category for over a year now! Even if I was a competitor of the editor, that goes against the rules of being an editor... they are suposed to be unbiased.
Besides the editor, there are 200 or more editalls that can list your site not including the much higher ranks. It's just an area without much activity or an area that has been ignored. A competitor is unlikely to get listed. That I thought so too. Look at this Category as an example. There used to be a corrupt editor in there named similar to San Antonio SPUR. From Restoration to Water Damage he cannot even analyze WHAT and WHERE it belongs to. That category is a laughing stock to me and the Restoration Industry in General. While I was still a Good Ole Boy in the ODP back then. I tried to apply in that category to help clean it up but was declined by the tune of a MELODY in favor of a corrupt editor. That is some ways they lose people that can help. Anyway the editor was removed and unfortunately the category still sits there, when the last time I peek the number it was in the 500's unreviewed in Restoration. So what are rules ? Even inside the ODP there are not much of it ? Just expect the unbiased and the unfavorable. That is Life.
The vast majority are unbiased but there is no real direction or compulsion to edit more than once every four months. It is likely that it is simply that no active editor is particularly bothered about this category. If you compare the number of categories with the number of new sites added annually then on average one new site will be added to each category every four years. But since this is not uniform you may wait more or less than four years. I did come across a couple of examples of editors who were blocking competition whilst I was an editor - those editors were removed. But keeping an eye on 600,000 categories for that sort of thing is not easy for the relative handful of senior editors who know what to look for. You can always report it and someone will look.
Just like all of the others in this forum, I just get a little frustrated. I submitted a few sites almost two years ago and tried to forget about but every now and again I go back to check and just get frustrated all over again. All I want is a fair shot.
DMOZ doesn't set out to be fair to webmasters - that is the long and short of it. Do you offer some product and service that is unique, that no-one else offers? If not then DMOZ is not really interested. And you don't need a fair shot if you are doing your marketing right - plenty of top performing sites are not listed and it has done them no harm.
Telecom sounds like the kind of category that would be very uninteresting to editors - with very little unique in new sites being offered. Probably a lot of spam-sites to wade through as well. So if your site is really good - just keep building, pay for a yahoo-listing perhaps and get other links as well.
