I love these threads and am drawn to them , I read them evry time I wander through this sub forum but like everyone else I dont know either , but I guess its going to be at the end of this month. Time will tell..
You are right, it seems everyone is eagerly waiting for the update and are on top of it, almost everywhere. Frankly speaking its just a waste of time to even concentrate on pageranks or alexa ranks. There are plenty of programmers happy to sell misguided people tools for changing their rankings. Some of them are designed so that they also have a useful purpose so at least get something that will actually help in some other way if you do. The numbers are meaningless and focusing on them is a distraction from doing something profitable instead.
You can see if there is indications for update with iwebtool pr checker, when all the toolbar servers are down. It's not reliable information, but still is some clue Last december they are all down and after that Surprise! New PR
A true word! People are way too much worried about PR's. And for what? So you can brag you got a PR4 or 6 or even higher? But what about the traffic? Traffic doesn't come from your PR, it comes from your SERP's. You can have a PR6 and won't get a single sale if your keywords don't rank well. I personally was sooooooo happy getting a PR 2 for an only a little over 2 months old site at the last PR update. And what happened? Instead of traffic going up, my traffic went down. The traffic I was getting for the first two months was a "start out boost" that Google gives new sites. But as I had to learn so this stops really quick and you have to stand on your own feet and work hard for your traffic, No matter if coming from referring sites or from Google and Co.
