They just don't get it. Sad. They don't have internet in their house either. My parents had me pretty late and are already close to 70. Way behind in time. I'd love to spend ... whoops, I mean invest it for them
Actually I think your parents are right. My father is not the most clever person around, but he teached me one important thing: Everything that looks to be too good to be true, usually is.. So, he sticks to what he is good at, and saves his money in the bank, and doesn't jump on all the "good investments" out there. I think it's better to be safe than sorry. And I believe that the things that were true yesterday, also is today. Just before the .com bubble cracked, I was running a company making webshops together with my brother. We were offered around USD 2 mill for the company. It turned out the buyer could not get hold of the cash, but the point is that our company was worth nothing in my eyes. The whole business was me, my brother and our "office" in the basement of his house. It's incredibly easy to create an image of success.
I save every pretty much every dollar I make outside of my boat and its expenses I spend next to nothing I want to buy a house on the ocean or at least on canal, with cash I might have to break down and buy a hi-def tv and xbox360 though
OMG dude... you are an idiot then. If you have $5M, invest it and even on a BAD year, make 10%/year... and have your $500,000/year income forever. I'm not shooting to make $1M/year, I'm shooting to have enough saved that the interest/investments gives me $1M/year for free.
And they all seem to have some big boned cat that moves maybe 5 times a day, twice to go potty and 3 times to eat. With it comes a family tree to justify the 4k they've spent on that thing. I like cats, but some animal lovers make little sense to me.
Yikes, who spends $4k on a cat? Does AKC really matter when it comes to a cat? Dogs, maybe, but a cat? Who knows. Even if I had a cool mil/year coming in free and clear, I would have my same inexpensive ($400) Lab, some rag-a-muffin cat, and, of course my Ferrets! I think I would just spring the extra bucks for all of them to have a room of their own
*whistles* - there are variety of fish that go for $500,000+ I am sure you can find some very expensive cats and dogs!
We've got 5 salt water tanks. Believe me, I know fish are expensive, especially salt water. But again, never seen anything in the $500k range, nor would I buy anything near that range unless it was gonna shit a liter of babies I could sell for $500k/ea. I guess I don't think of a cat as a "show" type animal. Don't get me wrong. I prefer cats to almost any other animal, but could not see paying more than the intial worming and other shots/vet visit for any cat.
Why would you spend 500k on a fish? They die? For 500k I would want a blue whale and a few white sharks. How off-topic can this thread be?
I love this thread! PETS- I'm more of a dog person.... today was a good day too. Once a month we have a groomer come to the house and take care of my golden retriever. SCHOOL- I missed my psychology class 38 days in a row my senior year of high school.... my punishment was that one of my parents had to attend school with me all day to ensure I made it to all my classes. That day sucked. [side note]A year after I graduated the made some law that if you missed X amount of days you fail. I like to think I helped make that a law.[/side note]
