Any Marketers Targeting Colleges?

Well we're working on getting one of our sites out there, and wanted to know how you went about:

    1. Promoting your college related site?
    2. How were you monetizing your site?
    - We've added some adsense for now, but wanted to do more.

We tried to get College promoters to advertise events on there, but we realise they're pretty stingy, so have to make the $ some other way.

    - TRENDS, Out! :D

I would try and contact collegehumor.com type sites and get some banners set up on those sites. You could also check out some college related forums.

    Hey syia!

We've set up a page and targeted the local Atlanta Students. But we haven't done any bunch of bulletin, messages, etc since we want to stay in their good graces.

We have invited them out to events going on locally though.

I think you should try out facebook as well, it has 85% of current college students.

Yes, use facebook and you can target the specific college you want to advertise to.

Will try that as well ... aren't they only open to College Students though, no regular folks & businesses?

Just to give you some reference: I ran a bunch of flyers on Facebook at a handful of different colleges. I ran a bunch of Google Ads at the same time. My Google Adwords ads outperformed my Facebook ads by leaps and bounds. Really with identical marketing content as well.

This led me to the conclusion that while Facebook ads/flyers are certainly targeted, I would be far better served to pay Google for the people that DO want to visit my site, as opposed to paying Facebook for the people that MIGHT want to maybe visit my site.
