Hey I am interested in this as well. I know another person who linked a popular site to his and it seemed to really boost the post count. Perhaps you could find a more popular site that has the same type of members and topics and link it to your site. Still sorting out if this cool or kinda unethical so I'd wait to see if others weigh in on it.
Yeh, like MWVN mentioned what is the site about? It would give people a better idea of the types of marketing that would be an option to promote the site. How about writing press releases and articles and submitting them - the links alone will help it's ranking in the search engines, and you might find traffic appearing which is a bonus.
Onlypoints.com seems to be a place to earn points by playing games, referring others, or completing offers to redem for prizes or products. I think you would be effective by advertising in some of the autotraffic sites. People there are looking for stuff to get something for "free." That may be one place to get some signups for next to nothing.
Do social bookmarking for your site because it is cheap but so much affective for increasing traffic. Thank you.
