Any Ideas How to Track Competion's Keywords

I started my last response to you with, "We seem to be on different subjects." That doesn't seem to have changed.

PPC-Coach submitted a comment to the effect that spying tools are a waste of time, claiming - and correctly so - that keywords taken from competitors by way of spying will still require "nurturing".

You responded to this by saying, ". . . if you can find out what your competitors are bidding on and find out words which you are missing out on - GO FOR IT!" This is a valid point but irrelevant to the point made by PPC-Coach. The subject matter concerned the potential value of stolen keywords, in particular, whether the keywords will be instant, no-brainer goldmines or will require work to be made profitable.

I butted in at this point, supporting PPC-Coach's statement. I simply reiterated the point that keywords collected through spying will still require work, even if they were profitable for the competitor. And even then, there's no guarantee that the keywords will be profitable for you. Therefore, in my point of view, this nullifies the whole purpose of spying tools, which are sold on the basis of being able to help you gather profitable competitor keywords. Spying tools do not do "what it says on the tin", and are therefore a waste of time, effort and money.

Note that at no point did I say that there are no benefits of knowing which keywords your competitors are bidding on. In fact, you should know absolutely everything about your competitors. It's common sense. I even buy from my competitors so as to observe their complete sales funnels.

I stand by that statement. I've got morons spying on me every day, as if they're going to do something. They can't and never will be able to, because I dominate my niches.

 

I believe that spying on keywords is just business and it happens in all forms of business and its nothing to be ashamed about but as said before you still have to put it into action. Also If you know your niche then you really don't need to spy as you should be able to know what your visitors would be searching.

 

But that doesn't justify them being a waste of time does it? So they need nurturing, so what? Nurture them and make money from them ... that's hardly a waste of time is it?

For those who think they are a waste of time ... I DISAGREE!

It's very very straight forward ... they supply you with keywords that your competitors are using - some of these you might not be using. You decide which you feel, relate to your business and carry out the same testing as you do with all your other keywords.

Some will be profitable for you, some won't.

This alone is an obvious example of how the spy tool is useful. It really is as simple as that. Whether to use them or not is an easy one ... you use them.

As I say, whether they will be instant, goldmines etc is down to the usual testing and organising. No difference.

When you use the Google keyword tool to find keywords, do you know if they are doing to be profitable? Of course you don't, you have to try them and see what return you get from them. The same applies. The google keyword tool is giving your keywords... the spy tool is giving you keywords to use.

Like I say, there is no guarantee that the keywords I find via the Google keyword tool, will be profitable though is there?

They might be sold on the basis of being able to gather profitable keywords, yet I'd simply start out using them to find out more keywords. Anything else would be a bonus. Do you still say they are useless if I'm using them for this method?

As I say above, they arent a waste of time and money if they are supplying me with keywords that things such as Google Keyword Tool doesn't come up with.

Well the spy tools give you the benefit of knowing which keywords your competititors are bidding on ... so they are worth using.

Why not? Unless you are super human and know everything about Google Adwords, then someone like me could find out what niched keywords you are using and compete against you ... you are saying I can't and never will be able to, because you dominate your niches? That's rubbish. I could bid more for the keyword - I could get a better or equally as good QS, I could produce better ads, I could have a better website.

I'm sorry but you can't always dominate a niche. It just doesn't work like that. Simply having people competing against you could make a difference.

I operate in three niches, two of them very competitive. I've had retards like you spying on me for the past year. They haven't been able to do anything because spying tools don't work and retardation limits their abilities.

According to your above quote, it's easy to steal campaigns using spying tools. Yet, you obviously have never used spying tools, because you wouldn't entertain such a romantic view of them had you done so. I'll tell you what . . . Go and try some spying tools, then respond with an honest opinion. I guarantee that you will not share the same view.

well... 'debating' in forums is absolutely acceptable...as we're discussing issues, opinions and etc..there's no right n wrong..just in a matter of controlling the situation..haha..quite interesting...

but still..back to the subject..just wondering it is worthing to spy on others..as it takes time + effort to keep 'busy' spying..

I think its important to always monitor competitors...

But the way they are attempting to do it, as to find profitable keywords and such, I think is a waste of time.

Spy tools are worthless, but keeping an eye "spying" on competition is always important. But I think its more important to pay attention to their strategy rather than their keyword list.

So many newbies weight on the important of natural keyword conversion while true marketers and professionals make all keywords work through advanced conversion tactics. This is what you should be "spying" on.

This is 500% more important than trying to figure out a competitors keyword portfolio. A spy tool will never reveal a competitors complete keyword portfolio, and even if it did, you could not see the internal structuring. Your wasting your time with keyword spy tools. If a keyword has more than a couple people bidding on a keyword, then its profitable one way or another. If you cant make it profitable, then your doing something wrong.
