Hi, I'm not a designer but I have this poster in pdf. I am trying to attach it on a forum but I can't because the file is too big. The file is 1018kb and it needs to be reduced to 488kb. Can this be done?
try converting the pdf file to a jpeg with the select, copy and paste method with adobe acrobat reader
yes can be using adobe acrobat save preferences, set the images to be saved as jpgs on low setting. they will be all lossy/blocky but thats how u save filesize.
or if you have the proffesional version of adobe acrobat reader, u can reduce the picture size within the pdf to make it smaller and still keep the posters quality.
Neonic Nice linkage on the optimization, though aren't there are free tools that offer this as well? =]
Free PDF Compressor http://www.softizer.com/show_product/utilities/file_compression/free_pdf_compressor/
Guys you are the best (especially Neonic). I am not a designer and only now I realise how little I know about files and the rest. There is some terminology which I have no idea what it means. So I guess I will have to ask a friend tomorrow to help with this. I tried the softizer one and while I got it to work quite easily I could only downsize from 990kb to 830kb EDIT: I just wanted to say thanks to one DP member who very gratiously offered to change the image for me and he has already done it and looks good. Thanks for that.
try to put bicubic downsampling to max, remove all kind of compatibility and fast preview, embedded fonts and retain editing etc and put compression to max
