Hi Im new to this forum so this thread may not be in the correct place.. Anyway - i was advised to buy IBP (Internet Business Promotor) by a friend to promote my online auction site ChristmasBid.com, i submitted my site to 100's of search engines then i came across (directory's). Are these the same as a search engine? and are they worth me submitting to them?? Any help would be great.. Thanx
They are similar to search engines, just human edited. The quality paid directories are definately worth submitting too. They will give you strong backlinks that help your sites rank high in search engines.
IBP is a nice software as I have used it before. Although you can learn pretty quick even by not reading the manual, which I did, it is still advisable to do so. What I liked with the software is its many abilities rolled into one which are normally found on individual programs.
With respect, Submitting to search engines is generally considered to be a total waste of time. I've done it myself in the past, an the only 2 good things that came out of it were 1, I discovered forums like digitalpoint, sitepoint , webmasterworld ( i was trying to find out why mys submissions where futile, and what was the meaningof SEO) 2, I discovered directories other than dmoz So, good news, Submission to directories is more useful than direct submission to search engines, because The search engines will find you within the directories The search engines are more likely to index and save(cache) your site if they find it in several directories. Good luck
