nvu is quite adaptable. I use it or in portions on a lot of projects.

I use cpanel Text editor. It's so much easier to work on it that way that to constantly upload a file. Especially when I'm working with HTML & PHP. DW and FP are a waste of time. cpanel is alot simpler

Though a old thread but still :).....

I am using M$ FrontPage for editing web pages. It is really time consuming to make tables when u can do in seconds in editors.

Once you get the hang of tables typing them in with an editor which autocompletes it's as fast as freaky frontpage

Me, I use Zend studio since I code alot of PHP
and Homesite, I like this editor because I've been using it for years

True, but there are distinct advantages using DW. Here's an example:
    http:// www. stockphotowarehouse. com/
This is a photo collection that took about 2 hours to create almost 1500 webpages using the 'create photo album' feature in DW...Commands>Create Web Photo Album.

Fireworks also offers 'batch processing'. Check out some of the options File> Batch Process...WOW, impressive.

I always code by hand using Notepad and CuteHTML. With CuteHTML I can search and replace on all files at the same time.

BTW, any handcoders that made some nice sites by hand can get on this list (if you also display the icon.).

I started doing everything in notepad just so I could learn. Now I'm so used to doing everything by hand, that it just seems weird to use an editor. I don't like the idea of things going on in the background that I don't know about. I found it's easier just to write things myself. Then if I have to change anything I know where to find it instead of having to dig through the bloated code from some editor.

I've been hand coding my sites for about 6 years but I've just started using Dreamweaver and although it's going to take some time to learn, I think in the long run it will save me time. It accomidates for the different browsers, validates code I write & optimizes the pages.

I use vi most of the time these days. Though I used to be a big fan of of Eclipse, its just a little too much for the PHP I do (though the CVS stuff comes in hand).

These days I'm all commandline and vi...

Guess what, I hand code too! I use homesite at work, but anything that colors my tags is fine.

DW now, hand coded at the beginning of me learning, then some MS FP and Interdev. Now I'm beginning to get the hang of DW and building sites at astonishing speed. I even use the code wizards for database operations. Might not be the prettiest results straight out of the wizard but faster to use that and change than hand code from the beginning. So much is just repetition that if you can wizard that in a few minutes you can spend some more time on things the wizards can't do.

Though you have to know the hand coding part to be allowed to use the wizard (never use wizard code you don't understand).

I handcode everything in HAPedit. It has a number of built-in-functions, so it helps me remember arguments in php, and has a good color scheme so I don't leave tags open, but I don't use auto-fill-in features or code generators

It all depends on what I am doing. Sometimes I use Frontpage to start and then go in and edit it. It is usually a bit faster and I also use Ultraedit and PSPad
