Any Google Earth/Second Life hackers out here?

    Hello,
I'm looking for a cheap way to create fast 2D gui on top of 3D background... know about some Flash components to do it yet they're too hot with $$$.

So thinking to start the whole thing with eCere toolkit, but... what does the majors are allowing me to do? Is there any open KML/Second Life documentation on creating the GUI's? (it would need something like canvas control to render small images sent over from local source, so thinking on hacking Second Life Viewer too).
