Any good SEO extensions for Joomla?

Discussion in 'Joomla' started by smobot, Apr 3, 2010.

I've been browsing Joomla.org for the most basic SEO extensions I could hope for, and I'm not really finding anything good. Plain and simple, here is what I want to do:

    1. Insert Title, Description and (not as important) Keyword meta tags for each page. I don't want the extension to automatically generate description content. That's not SEO; that's just stupid.

    2. XML sitemap generator that automatically updates with changes to the site, or on a scheduled basis.

    3. Search engine friendly URLs that don't cause the site to blow up, like the Apache-users-only option in the Global configuration console.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    - insert title, description and keyword meta tag:
you can insert it when you write a new post, you can insert it manually in the right bottom (meta data information) and you dont need install new extention
    - xml sitemap
    try to use xmap
    - SEF
    I'm using artio joomlaSEF

Not exactly. You can insert a description for an article, but not a URL. If a page (URL) includes multiple articles, a wrapper, or any other "menu item type," your options are limited.

I want a simple SEO console that would allow me to modify metadata per URL.

Article titles aren't necessarily the same as Title tags, nor should they be. Title tags are about relevance and call to action.

I have installed XMAP, but it simply mirrors menu links rather than crawling the site... so I hope something better exists.

    Thank you though.

    1) RSSEo does all this this http://www.rsjoomla.com
    2) joomla xmap plugin does this extremely well
    3) I use RSSEO for everything meta related and sh404sef for SEF URL's

    Hi,

Just to let you know, RSSeo! can create an xml sitemap too as the xmap plugin does, so it can also be used for the second point.

Artio makes a great SEO Url plug. I also use JVRelated to bring all of my articles together. Another good plug I use is the nofollow mambot.

The sh404sef is popular, probably the most popular, but if you optimize your site yourself it is
    unnecessary.

Change the htaccess.txt to .htaccess and use the global setting to make your joomla site SEO friendly.

I used sh404sef for a couple of years, and then tried AceSef - worked straight out of the box, and did exactly what I wanted it to do without mucking around (like sh404SEF needed). You can also edit the meta data via a great layout.
